You Never Know
Your parents, teachers or whatever “adult” figure gave you advice growing up probably once said, “You never know what your actions today will bring tomorrow”. If your relationship with Karma is half as good as mine, then you learned to include future repercussions into as many actions as you could. And when you didn’t, Karma would teach you why you should have.
Now, as an adult, these lessons are well learned! Sometimes, when you least expect it, Karma even pats me on the back for my hard work. Here in New York, between gigs, I work as a waiter. Admittedly, it’s not my favorite job in the world, but it allows me to still do what I love, while also affording me some schedule flexibility. I should also explain that the restaurant I work is known for having singing waiters. Anyways, so the other day the MC gets on the mic and happens to mention I’m fresh off the Aladdin Tour as I’m walking up to greet a family that was just sat in my section(not the people in the picture, that’s my family that live in Atlanta). Immediately I see their eyes light up as the wheels start to turn. Turns out they had seen me perform in Atlanta this fall. Now, originally I left the Aladdin Tour in June, but was called back to cover a character I understudied when someone injured themselves during a show. I wasn’t even supposed to be performing in Atlanta! Not only that, but they remembered who I was in the show!
Despite what people think, artists are just as capable of getting bored with what they do and phoning it in. It’s chance encounters like this that push me to bring 100% every time I step on stage.
